Entry mats help catch the grit and moisture that Wyoming weather brings indoors.
Fall in Wyoming brings beautiful colors, cooler temperatures—and plenty of dirt, grit, leaves and moisture through the front door. What comes inside on shoes and paws can affect flooring long after the mud has dried. Fine particles of sand and soil settle into carpet, while grit left on hard floors can contribute to surface wear.
Use a sturdy outdoor mat for larger debris and an indoor mat for finer soil and moisture. Clean both regularly.
Entryways, hallways and stairs collect more soil than quieter areas. Vacuum them more frequently.
Wipe up tracked-in water promptly, especially near seams and edges. Follow the flooring manufacturer’s instructions.
As snow, slush and ice-melting products arrive, give entrances a little extra attention.
Carpet does not have to look dirty to hold fine soil. Frequent vacuuming of high-use areas helps remove loose grit before it becomes embedded.
Is it better to clean carpets in the spring or before winter?
“Both have their benefits! Spring is warmer, and people are generally more comfortable opening windows and doors. Winter has its advantages, too. The air is usually much drier, so with a warm home, carpets can dry surprisingly quickly.
I usually tell people the best time to clean their carpet is when they have the time. The season matters less than what works for their household.
Some people like to have their carpets cleaned before family or company arrives. Others would rather wait until everyone has gone home.
Either way, the goal is the same: a fresh, clean carpet when it makes the most sense for you.”

“Only clean carpet when it looks dirty.” Not necessarily. Dry soil can accumulate before discoloration appears. Vacuuming and periodic professional cleaning are both part of routine care.
